Therapeutic Massage
What is a therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage, falls into an overarching field that includes rehabilitative, clinical, orthopedic and neurointegrated massage therapy. This specialized approach is distinct from the relaxation-focused massages commonly experienced in spa settings. These advanced forms of therapy zeroes in on specific functional issues, often involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves. The primary goal is not just to provide temporary relief but to address the underlying causes of pain, limited movement, and other impediments that interfere with daily life. The the cohesive therapeutic massage applications aims to alleviate pain, restore function, and promote healing for acute pain, sports therapy, injuries, myoskeletal dysfunction and repetitive pattern problems.

Your therapeutic session will be customized through a personalized evaluation based on your needs. The use of evidence-based massage and mobility methods such as: orthopedic massage; neuromuscular therapy; cupping therapy; Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) such as reciprocal inhibition (RI), joint mobilization, etc; Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF); use of a massage gun; will be chosen by your therapist based on their assessment and personal education and skills. Frisco Massage Therapy utilizes neurointigrative movement re-education through the Physiokinetix program to establish a brain-body connection for long-lasting changes in the body. The objective is to release muscles holding dysfunction, increase overall mobility, bring the body back to a neutral state, and restore postural stability, thereby assisting the body in pain recovery, function, and healing.

Assessing Your Pain Complaint
Assessment is crucial in the proper treatment of soft tissue pain. In a rehabilitative session, assessment is a priority so that your therapist can gather valuable information and use their clinical reasoning and training to create a effective treatment plan. An assessment from your therapist includes a particular line of questioning to collect objective information from the client's intake form and health history, followed by a series of evaluations. These evaluations collect information about the client's range of motion and include palpation findings, postural examination and/or special orthopedic tests. While it is the therapist's sole mission to seek out possible causes of your pain to treat effectively, keep in mind it is out of a massage therapist's scope of practice to diagnose a condition.
