Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
How long does an InBody Body Composition Assessment take?
The InBody 580 analysis itself takes approximately 30 seconds. From the start of the instructions through completion, the testing experience takes about 60 seconds. Your complete appointment takes about 10 to 15 minutes and includes the InGrip Strength Assessment and a private review with a Certified InBody Specialist.
What does the InBody 580 measure?
The InBody 580 provides a detailed body-composition analysis that includes skeletal muscle mass, percent body fat, visceral fat area, body water, segmental lean analysis, basal metabolic rate, and other measurements. Your appointment also includes an InGrip Strength Assessment.
Why do you measure grip strength?
Grip strength is a simple, objective measure of overall muscle function. It can provide useful information about strength, functional ability, and healthy aging. When reviewed alongside your InBody 580 results, grip strength adds another measurement that can help establish your current baseline and track changes over time.
Will I complete the grip strength test at every assessment?
Yes. An InGrip Strength Assessment is included with every InBody Body Composition Assessment. Measuring it consistently alongside your body-composition results provides a more complete picture of your progress and helps you follow changes in strength over time.
Will someone help me understand my results?
Yes. Every assessment includes a one-on-one consultation with a Certified InBody Specialist. We will explain your key measurements, answer your questions, and help you understand how the results relate to your goals.
Is the InBody test safe?
The InBody test is quick, non-invasive, and does not use radiation. It uses a low-level electrical current to measure impedance. People with pacemakers or other implanted electronic medical devices should not complete the test unless cleared by their healthcare professional. If you are pregnant or have questions about whether the test is appropriate for you, consult your healthcare professional and contact us before booking.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?
You do not need an all-day fast, but InBody recommends waiting at least 3 hours after your last meal. Follow the preparation instructions above so your baseline and future comparisons are as consistent as possible.
What should I wear?
Wear light, comfortable clothing. You will remove your shoes and socks for the test, along with heavy accessories such as a watch or jewelry. Avoid lotion or ointment on your hands and feet that day.
Should I exercise before my appointment?
No. Exercise can temporarily affect hydration and other measurements. Schedule your assessment after you have fully recovered from exercise and try to follow the same routine before future assessments.
How often should I schedule an assessment?
The right schedule depends on your goals and how quickly meaningful change is likely to occur. Your Certified InBody Specialist can help you choose a reasonable follow-up interval after reviewing your first assessment. Consistency in timing and preparation matters more than testing too frequently.
Is an InBody assessment better than a traditional scale?
They measure different things. A scale shows total body weight, while the InBody 580 separates that weight into measurements such as muscle, body fat, and body water. That added context can reveal changes that body weight alone may miss.
Can I compare my results with previous assessments?
Yes. Your results can be stored in the free InBody App, making it easier to review past assessments and follow trends. For the most meaningful comparisons, complete each assessment under similar conditions, such as the same time of day and a consistent food, fluid, and exercise routine.
Can the assessment diagnose a medical condition?
No. An InBody Body Composition Assessment provides educational body-composition information. It does not diagnose, treat, or rule out a medical condition. Discuss medical concerns and treatment decisions with a qualified healthcare professional.
Who can book an assessment?
You do not need to be a massage client or an athlete. Assessments are available to people who want a clearer body-composition baseline or a more useful way to follow progress. Contact Frisco Massage Therapy before booking if you have questions about age, accessibility, pregnancy, or an implanted medical device.
